Commissioned for a family of strawberry growers in Lochristi in eastern Flanders. Irregular, coarse, ’dirty’ yellowish foam, colour lingers between orange and copper, lightly clouded. The nose gets lots of strawberry, but not entirely genuine (to say the least) - in fact, it reminded me more of strawberry jam or even strawberry icecream. Lemony accent too, caramel malts, bit of orange peel and unfortunately a lot of rotten egg (H2S) further ruining an already initially unattractive aroma. Taste a soft, sweet fruitiness, obvious strawberry jam or juice (though less artificial than I expected based on the aroma), thin mouthfeel, not much maltiness to back it up, undercarbonated too, finish a bit watery, only slightly hoppy. Clearly out of balance and not enough ’backbone’ to support the over-presence of strawberries.

Bottle, 5.5%. Distinct strawberry aroma. Cloudy orange colour, hint of red. Very big white head with a hint of red. Sweet flavour, but not overly so. Distinct strawberry flavour and not too bad. Dryish finish, reminds me slightly of aspartam, but is probably fermented fruit sugar.

(Bottle 33 cl) Slightly hazy, reddish amber with a creamy, off-white head. Sweetish but rather fresh strawberry aroma. Medium body with a soft mouthfeel and lightly sweet notes of strawberries. Almost no bitterness. A very decent and not too sweet fruit beer. 180108

Cloudy golden color. Quite nice fruity aroma, delicate, and some yeast too. Good Belgian Ale, sweetish, with a light fruity touch (wild strawberries). Pleasant.

Bottled. An unclear orange-red beer with a lazing orange head. The aroma is totally dominated by strawberries, and the flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of strawberries. The mouthfeel is very soft. If you like strawberries, you’ll like this one.

Red-foxy beer with faint greenish shine; small, pinkish head leaving some lace. Overwhelming nose of strawberry jam, very outspoken but all the same not off-putting. Sweet strawberry taste, like the strawberry "fruits" in the "Turkish fruit" range. Or artificial ester, if you want. In fact, it tastes like strawberry flavoured sugar lumps. Medium bodied, some slickness, difficult to say wherefrom. "Fruit"character... who the hell wants this? Yet the commissioner claims full natural strawberries. Oh well.
