It's summer, the sun is out and Half Mast is the perfect way to celebrate. An IPA with a quarter of the alcohol, but not lacking in the flavour, impact balance that you would expect from a Siren beer. This golden coloured IPA has a surprising malt base given it's strength, low bitterness, but it's popping with juicy mango and grapefruit. Truly the perfect summertime drink.

on tap at Beer Geek. Hazy golden color with medium quickly disappearing head. Aroma: grapefruit, orange, zesty. Taste: citrus, light resins, orange juice. Light body, soft carbonation. Moderate bitterness with loads of fruitiness. Quit full in taste for such low ABV.

Bottle: Almost clear, deep golden, lively carbonation, bigger rocky and stable off-white head; distinctive dry lemony and piney nose, even some malt in the background detectable; moderate to solid dry bitter flavour, light bodied as expected; dry - as well - and tart lemony and mainly piney finish. Good summer ale...

Bottle from Tanakaya. Pours a clear gold with 2 fingers of white foam. Nice zesty, citrus-forward nose with light iyokan and lemon. Bone-dry on the palate with mineral water-like carbonation. Maybe a bit too dry for me, but for 2.8% abv it’s pretty good. --- Beer merged from original tick of Half Mast on 08 Sep 2016 at 21:24 - Score: 6. Original review text: Zesty cirrus nose with light floral aromas. Boone dry on the palate and light bodied. Kind of a mineral water like feel. Nice dry-hopping.

Bottle from the Magpie and Crown, Brentford. Dark gold, hazy, with a decent-sized off-white head. Some lacing. Mango and papaya dominate the aroma, but there’s an odd plastic note with something else akin to mosquito spray. Doesn’t completely spoil it but knocks it back a notch. Taste is balanced, sweeter than most session IPAs, and there’s a savoury note akin to pumpkin. Long finish is much more bitter as the tangy hops linger. Not perfect but my God there’s bags of character for this ABV.

Gott.

Bottle from Theatre of Wine, Greenwich. Gold pour with a white head. Peaches, marmalade and tangerine aroma. Lots of soft fruit in the flavour. Unsurprisingly light and easy drinking. Refreshing too. Light bitter finish.
