St George's Ale is a dragon slayer of a brew. Its deliciously smooth, full flavoured and powerful hoppy aroma make it a full bodied English beer that would ward off the most ferocious of fire-breathing legends.

Pint bottle: December 2006 from BA. I drank this beer in a London pub, in cask condition while watching a World Cup match (football) last summer. I was not impressed and thought it might just be a celler, landlord, pub problem. Now I have tried a bottle, I am not so sure, I think it is a beer I do not really like or enjoy drinking. Quarter inch thick, off-white head sat atop a light amber beer ina pint sleeved glass, looked OK. The aroma and taste were of sweet malts, a fizzy hoppiness and nothing else, not great in my opinion. Very poor mouthfeel, no lasting flavours or aftertaste. Not a beer I will be searching for, or even trying again.

Bottle. Froth, off-white head that diminishes quickly. The body is a hazy, medium amber. Pleasant English aroma of toasted bread, dough, raisin, toffee and caramel. Some light hop notes of orange peel and herbs. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It fnishes lightly sweet and moderately bitter. Medium body with a watery texture. Soft carbonation. A slight metallic flavor in the finish.

The 0.5L bottle poured a clear copper with gold edges and tan head to go along with spotty lacing. The aroma smells of malts and citrus. Very mild aroma overall. The taste has a nice maltiness to it with lightly roasted malts, pale malts and some biscuit malts as well. The malts are cut by a mild pulse of citrus and spice hops. Nice tasting bitter.

Bottle as shown. Pours a hazy orange golden color with a small off white head that diminishes quickly. The aroma is a sweet malt and licorice. The taste is a light malt with a dry bitter finish. Enjoyed this ESB from Youngs.

Pour is a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma is strong i can smell it as I pour it from the bottle. Lots of caramel and a slight dark cherry. Flavor is a bit dusty that all Youngs beers seem to have with a bit of dry malts and some dark fruit. Im sure this brewer makes another beer like this but you canโ€™t complain as this is a tasty and wonderful ESB.

500 ml. bottle; bb 22 Apr 07; Neck band states itโ€™s from The Ram Brewery; an heirloom. Aroma of caramel malts with accompanying light citrus. Unclear amber color with a white head that struggles to live. Medium bodied with mild carbonation. Light caramel sweetness with some citrus and tangy spice. The English probably consider this bitter, but itโ€™s more like an American amber. Perhaps a bit more bitter in the finish than an amber, and there is some light spice to further distinguish it. Pretty dry finish, with some lingering spicey & malt notes along with bitter. Itโ€™s nice. Given the name Iโ€™d like to give higher praise. But itโ€™s only really good.

Bottled. Pale amber, fairly rich head. Lightly resiny hop aroma. Sweet and medium bodied with dense mouthfeel. Lightly hoppy with some caramel and paper. Low-medium bitterness.
