Draught from ginger manhattan. Dark with smallish head. Some chicolate but some sourness too in fact too much of the sour. Kind of blah.

Courtesy of Gillard. Pours deep darkness with lasting brown head. The aroma smells like a musty closet lined with redwood or cedar planks. There’s also some roasted malts and faint burnt malts with some dusty astringency rounding things out. The taste is roasty to solid burnt malts mixed with rich chocolate malts, malt astringency and faint dark fruity esters.

Blind tasting at sk8vikings porter / stout tasting, beer no 25. Pours dark brown to black with a brown head. Sweet raisin and chocolate aroma. Chocolate and subdued liqourice flavour. Cheesy flavour with a slight malty note, roasted. Dry blended chocolate and malt flavour finish.

Rating 666 and this is a devilish a brew as I could come up with. Provided by notalush, thank you Brandon. Why is it devilish, well this brewery seems like they can just explode with wonderful beers but too often shows up infected and really disappointing. Pours black-hole black (as the pic shows) with a large dark, dark brown head. In general this is a quiet Imperial Stout with light mineral, some roast in the aroma. Taste is light roast, some chocolate milk, sweet dark bread and light roast in the aftertaste. Great palate though, very subtle carbonation and very velvet-y mouthfeel.

After all these years, I finally get to try this beer - does it live up to the hype? - well, about as much as any other Imperial Stout does, which is a nice way of saying, "no, but it still tastes pretty good" - very opaque pour, with a dark tan, no, brown head - thick aroma of figs, black cherry, espresso, burnt sugars, vinous notes - slick mouthfeel - heavy on the roasted/burnt qualities, with a sweetness that is very present, but never becomes dominant - lots of fig, plum, and strong coffee flavors - bakers chocolate and a hint of toffee - this is a nicely balanced imperial, but one that will probably be under-appreciated by someone that is used to the over-the-top booze bombs that are most current renditions of the style.

Pours a thick, deathly black with a thin, lacing brown head. Smells of alcohol and roasted malt. Taste is heavy on the roasted malt, with nice touches of plum and grapes. Finish is far too soapy, could be a product of the heavy alcohol. Not a bad Imperial Stout.

Bottle from goldtwins. Deep opaque brown-black body, thick, persistent, tight ochre head. Deep, rich roasted malts, with cocoa, coffee, and hints of smoke. Bold, bitter body emphasizes these characteristics, with just a touch of licorice. Nothing sweet or heavy, and the alcohol is subdued nicely. Compares favorably to St. Ambroise Oatmeal Stout and other top echelon roast-heavy stouts. An excellent change of pace.

A pitch black beer with a dark brown head. The aroma is sweet with primary notes of chocolate, but also with light notes of coffee. The flavor is dry roasted - as dry as licking on a piece of wood, though a chocolate covere piece of wood, since it also has some chocolate notes. I find it a bit too dry - but still drinkable.

(Bottle 65 cl) Pours completely black and opaque with a dense, handsome, light brown head. Burned, malty aroma. Solid body, lightly vinous with accents of very hard roasted, coffeeish malt and a burned edge. Some alcohol and some aroma hops shine through. Extremely dry, burned finish. 070606 and 070907

Pitch black in colour with a huge thickness to it and a thin brown head. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee and a lot of fresh hops for the style! Full-bodied; Strong coffee & bitter roasted malt tastes with a good chocolate finish. Overall, great to try-many thanks to EyeDrinkAle for bringing this beer. I sampled this beer from a 65 cL bottle after the RB party at Founder’s in Alexandria, Virginia at Mike’s (the_beer_god) hotel room on 20-November-2004.
