Pours brown-amber with a thin white head. Aroma of malt. Tastes like toasted malt with some dark notes on the back of the tongue. Palate includes cereal and some floral notes. Not bad.

12 ounce bottle. Amber orange color topped by a small foamy beige head. Light bready malt nose with notes of briny saltiness. Lacks complexity you would expect with a Marzen-style lager. Fruity sweet malt flavor lacks the toastiness and body I had hoped for. Too sweet and straight-forward for my liking. Needs more of a malty backbone. Somewhat disappointing.

Sampled on draft at the House of 1000 Beers this beer poured a medium caramel color with a medium sized creamy orange-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was sweet caramel, toffee, malty and had a bit of golden fruits. The flavor was sweet and tangy bread, honey, sour golden fruits, sugar, caramel and toffee. Turns somewhat bitter on the long tangy bread, toffee and fruit finish. Medium body and very smooth. Very pleasant.

Sample at the Clybourn brewpub. The beer is a clear orange-brown color with a medium thin off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of caramel malt and mild hops. Light to medium body with flavors of malt, sweet caramel and toffee, and herbal hops. The finish is sweet and malty. Slightly above average overall.

(10/9/08) Draught sample at the brewpub in Clybourn, Chicago. Hazy amber color. Aroma of malt, a bit of caramel and light citric notes. Sweet malty flavor with some toastiness, fruity hints and a slightly bitter finish. Medium-bodied. Not great but quaffable and enjoyable.

A surprisingly good oktoberfest. Aroma has malt and roasted nuts. A copper colored beer, some head. Very sweet, and more nuts. This beer is heavy on the malt and low on the hops; the way I like an Oktoberfest to be.

Pour is a dark amber with a nice size white head. Aroma is quite hoppy for a marzen. The hops overpower the malts. Flavor is deffiatly malty but again the hops come out strong. If you like your beer on the hoppy side this could be for you as the malts make an appearance but the hops come on in the end. A very different marzen but i like it.

Aroma of malts. Flavor of malts, too, as would be expected but only slightly sweet, with an undercurrent of hops and a slight bitterness in the finish. Clean and crisp and enjoyable enough, but nothing to write home about.

Bottled. Fairly ale-like in taste, yet dry as well. Hoppy, though, which balances a nice toasty malt aspect. I catch another touch of smokiness toward the end, which is nice.
