Amber colour with ruby highlights. Thin tan head with large bubbles. Sweet, citrus and piney hops in thea aroma. A bit of honey and fresh pineapple as well...very interesting. Full-bodied; tastes of honey, malt, pineapple and strong hops. The palate is filled with both tons of hops and tons of malt! A good beer, but not great. I don't think the massive combination works out the best it could have, but it is a very acceptable end product. Funky aftertaste reminiscent of must. Overall a pretty good beer, that should be sampled if available...because it will only be around for a while! I bought my 22 ounce bottle at Total Beverage in Thornton (Denver), Colorado.

Sampled at From The Vine monthly beer tasting Aug 4th, 2003: This is a good way to celebrate - and Imperial IPA! Apricot-colored with a medium thin off-white head and fair lacing. The aroma is well-hopped and heady. Rich-bodied with a strong hops presence, along with a little malt, spice and alcohol. The finish is long and nicely bitter. While not as complex as you may be led to believe, this is still a good beer.

Tasted at the Light Ales/Lagers Tasting in Chicago. Bright copper. Aroma: chewy caramel, some florals, slight almond notes. Big malt palate - pale, sticky, and syrupy. Some apricot. Long flavours of malts, but nothing special. Reminds of Lee's Harvest Ale, which isn't really my bag.

Bitter hints of hops pervade the otherwise caramely, malty aroma. Pours a dark straw color, with a thin white head. Flavor is sugary and caramely with a slight bready tone and bitter hops kick. Not quite an IPA, and not quite a barleywine, Avery Ten stakes out its own claim and delivers with a decent success rate.
