25th January 2009
Cloudy amber beer with a cream white head that quickly dies away. Soft beer. Hops dominate but they are very civilised and not bitter. Flavour tends towards a marmaladey orange. Some creamy malt as well. Low carbonation. Very easy drinking and satisfying beer.

Pours opaque copper with gold edges and thin white head. The aroma is rich chewy aged malt sweetness, solid pine hop notes and a thick layer of yum. The taste is the same with rich smooth sweet chewy malts and pine hops. It runs smoothly into the finish with thick malts, muted pine hops and caramel. This has held up perfectly. I could drink plenty more of this.

thanks to ibrew2or3 for bringing this gem.’03 bottle pours hazy orange, white head. Surprisingly, the beer had retained plenty of carbonation and some light head retention. aroma and taste, lots of caramel, grainy mouthfeel. some chocolate also noticeable, finish keeps some light hops and overall a big caramel, fruity profile with some warming abv. Hops seemed a little more attenuated, nevertheless, a fine complex beer.

2003 bottle thanks to Lumpy. Pours with a fluffy tan head over a clear orange body. Good retention from the head. Aroma of raisins, fig, alcohol, caramel, banana (in a sort of fusel alcohol way, not yeasty esters), toffee and melon. Taste is hugely sweet with raisin, and cardboard oxidation. Caramel too. Syrupy mouthfeel.

bottle - Pours hazy light amber with a thin head. The malty aroma smells sugary sweet and has some citrus. The flavor is quite sweet with mild hops balance, citrus notes, and spices. There’s also some pretty noticeable alcohol even after several years. The palate is syrupy and overall I thought it was a bit too sweet. It’s holding up well over the years though.

Pours a cloudy deep amber with lots of orange. Holds up a thin frothy head that falls quickly. Fragrant malt aroma, caramel and alcohol. This really improves as it warms. Some good complex flavors here but the alcoholic notes stay with it into the finish which detract somewhat for me in the overall picture. A bit of hop flavor accompanies the sweetness of the malt, but not the hops aren’t bitter. Not quite a Barleywine, but this has some similarities in the aroma and flavor.

An amber beer with a white head. The aroma contains lots of hops as well as coriander. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel and hints of alcohol while the end is bitter and dry with some amounts of alcohol.

22 oz bottle. Pours a ruddy amber/orange, clear and filtered with a firm off-white head. Aroma of hops, so many you can’t put your finger on it. Almost a marmalade-like citrus. Very fruity, yet mixed with a slight caramel and toffee note. The hops aroma is intense and deep. Flavor is hugely hoppy, yet strongly sweet due to the heavy malting. Creates a great balance and there is a decent complexity of orange fruits, caramel, some raisins and a dry, light yeast presence. Not much acidity, I was worried about that. Good full body. Great stuff, surprised so few people like this one. Proabably the 14 or so months of aging have helped this one.

Very slim head, reduced fast to rim. Light amber, golden shine. Noble hops, chalk in the nose, and grape like Chardonnay white. In the taste, the hops kick in first, but it's always mixed with a good malt base, not sweet but well-rounded. Finish is lipsmacking hopbitter, aftertaste winey. Full bodied. Just GREAT.
