Bottle. Curious Hop, Otley. Had this a while. Clear, deep ruby red. Film of tan head, that stays the course. Nose has some vegetal, chilli notes. Some roast malts. Bit of soy. Light hop fruit. Some ginger and cinnamon. Odd, really. Taste has some fruity, spicy sweetness. Touch of pepper bitterness. Light body. Plenty of carbonation. More of the vegetal thing on the finish. It’s ok, but it’s just a bit peculiar and a bit hard work. A spice-fest.

500ml bottle from Cork & Cask. Pours clear red-brown with a short-lived thin white head. Aromas of red fruits and light chocolate. Taste is more of the same. Thin finish. Bit disappointing.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Hazy brown body with a medium beige head. Good lacing. Aroma of strawberry laces, raspberry jam and a hint of smoked malt. Flavour of stewed tea, cherry, liquorice root and a tangy lime finish. Medium body with a chewy mouthfeel. Light fizz. A unique, tasty beer.

Bottle. Deep clear brown with a beige head. Aroma of dark chocolate, berry chai, hazelnuts, some bread. The berries and their astringency and spice come through more strongly in the taste, which is a bit tannic over bread, caramel and chocolate. And it makes for a dry and almost harsh finish which is shame given the promise of the first whiff. Still, pretty good and quite interesting.

On tap at Beer Deluxe. Pours brown with a small head. Faint nose, or is that just the glass? Creamy oily texture, not a whole lot of taste, it takes a bit of time to develop. A bit sour, a bit bitter. But then something happens when you swallow, a wonderful burst of bitterness and fruits. Odd to drink, but not bad
