On a cold January 2012 Sunday afternoon I visited the brewpub and tried all four beers available: this being the final and best one. It came semi-cloudy, a chestnut red/brown colour in a tall glass containing 0.3 litres, the head an off-white cap of bubbles that stayed the whole tasting. This isn’t from the same mould as the first three beers I had; this had more strength and character than the regular brews. The aroma was of sweet malty molasses, roasted, toasted and slightly nutty, some yeast esters as the beer warmed. The taste was a mixed bag of caramel, toffee, chocolate and liquorice with a yeasty undercurrent and a hop overcoat to stop the beer being too sweet. The alcohol content is almost contained, but it is clearly there from the first sip and stays right until the last sip is drying in your mouth. Its name suggests it should be a double Bock (it ends in ‘ator’). Really enjoyed my trip out to the brewery and although the first three beers were very similar I thought all four were fine, with this last one being by far the best.

Reddish-brown colour. Toasty aroma with mild chocolate accents. Soft caramel taste, a little bit earthy maybe. A straightforward bock.

Draft. A hazy chestnut colored beer with a lazing tan head. The aroma has strong notes of yeast and caramel as well as light notes of butterscotch and alcohol. The flavor is slightly acidic but also sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and bread.

Had this as Braumanufaktur Neujahrsbock. The bottle looks very simple, but good. Starts malty and strong, not too sweet. Little notes of liquorice. Good bock!

Bottle, 6.5% as Neujahrsbock. OK roast malt aroma. Cloudy brown colour. Small stable white head. The flavour is malty, slightly vinous. Seems a bit oxidized, but OK.

50 cL bottle. Pours hazy dark brown with a small off white head. Spiced and slight roasted malt aroma. Smooth roasted, caramel and roasted base flavour. Holds a nice bitterness and light liqourice note from this. Ends mild bitter and roasted. Nice one!

On tap. Slightly hazy orangey brown with a small, dense, off-white and lacing head. Lightly sweet aroma of burned caramel and a little butter. Medium body, some bonbon-like burned caramel. Subdued bitterness. Not the most convincing Bock. 090109
