Half-litre bottle on 16th January 2021 from Lidl in Kentish Town. Pours deep sepia black with pale tan foam and scant lacing. Inviting roast malt aroma. Richly roasty in-mouth with candied cherry fruits and coffee. Some bitterness in the upper rear mouth complements a coffee roast finish. Medium bodied with a full-on texture. Surprisingly good.

Pours dark ruby, almost black, small beige head being a little fizzy but there is retention. Aroma of roasted malts, dark fruits, a little chocolate. Flavour is moderately sweet, quite hoppy with berries and citrus coming through with an underlying malt. Quite bitter, carbonation is moderate and the body is a little on the light side. Finish is bitter and dry. Its quite nice overall for a cheap bottle.

Bottle from (you’ve guessed it) Lidl Pice strong aroma of milk chocolate, blackberries and roasdted malts. Pours a very dark reddish brown with vigorous lasting cream head. Fruit and chocolate combine again in the mouth, this itme with some plums and caramel. A hint of bitter coffee in the finish. This is rather nice, well balanced and understated.

Fles gedeelt door KoenvD, geprobeerd met Roelzie1986. Het is een diep donkerbruin bier met een beige schuim. Het heeft een gebrande moutige geur. De smaak is gebrande mout, chocolade.

Bottle from Lidl, Todmorden. This rating is for the Marston produced version which I initially drank and rated in 2017 having bought the bottle in 2015, but an admin saw fit to move it to the Shepherd Neame version for some reason, so here goes again... Clear brown with an extremely thin head. Undistinguished porter but fairly palatable.

Thin off white head left a spotty cover on a dark oak coloured still body. Dark chocolate, demerara, malt & bonfire toffee aroma. Medium bodied, sharp over the tongue with clean finish. Toffee, caramel, sweet berry, malt & dark chocolate tastes.
