This is our take on a double IPA. Although some would consider it somewhat ‘Belgian’ in its malt and yeast profile, we definitely crammed in all the juicy, fruity and fresh hops that any hophead could possibly wish for.
With Elliot, we tried to create a refreshing beer that’s dangerously drinkable while still maintaining that unxious mouthfeel that Struise is so renowned for. Being able to either quaffed or sipped, this is one of our most versatile multi-purpose beers.

33 cl bottle @ home. Rated on 15.04.2011
Aroma is very hoppy with exotic fruits and some biscuits. Flavour is also rather hoppy with exotic fruits and some Belgian yeast. Also hints of flowery notes and gooseberry bush. An IPA with Belgian twist. This was even more hoppy when I had a sip at the brewery on 07/2010.

Bottle at Brouwer's, pours a dirty orangey light brown with a small beige head. Aroma of Belgian yeast, caramel, citrus hops and candied sugar. Flavour is quite yeasty, with candied sugar, citrusy / zesty hops and some musty / dirty indecipherable notes. Doesn't seem like an IPA / IIPA to me - a bit jumbled in flavour but solid.

33 cl bottle from Bieresgourmet. Seems to be from batch III, though the label says 130 IBUs... Hazy, amber liquid with big off-white head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, mango, grass, spices, caramel malt, candi sugar, pine and biscuity malt notes. Taste is light sweet, medium to high bitter and quite spicy and malty. Notes of caramel, toffee and floral hops. Medium bodied with nice carbonation. Unfortunately, it’s a bit boozy. Still, nice brew where the belgian maltiness and the hops really work together well.

Seems to be batch I, 130 IBU
Amber orange colour, white fluffy head. Fruity hop aroma, grapefruit, orange, slight pineapple. Good malt background and some caramel with a slight lingering sweetness. Flavour bitter (though time has polished away the rough edges), quite some sweetness. Hops, spices and lots of citrus. Balanced malts. Body quite full, though the slightest bit cloying. Finish rather dry and bitter. Quite nice, though would have loved to taste this more fresh, with the full force of the hops.

Bottle at Cafe Buitenlust, Oirschot. I think this might very well be my worst rating for an Imperial/Double IPA. Color and palata are nice, but it smells like sweat or something! Maybe it was a bottle gone bad but it just wasn’t a good smell. Taste was decent, but not nearly as good as I normally rate IPAs.

Bottle. It pours a dim, orange-amber body with lots of carbonation making sure the big, dense, off-white head is quite stable. Big spots of lacings occur as the beer disappears down my throat. It’s malty and pleasantly alcoholic on the nose with spicy, grassy and light citrusy hops blending in. The maltyness blends brown sugar, beef stock and caramel in a nice way. There’s some hints of cellar too, guess the almost four years of cellaring has done some of that. In the mouth it’s full-bodied and warming, a bit too sugary but not really sticky. Nice carbonation, although I wouldn’t mind it a bit stiller. There’s an underlying bitterness bringing some balance into this mostly malty beer, with sugar, caramel, honey notes and some meaty hints. The cellar hints found in the aroma continues into the flavor and the mostly bitter end. The judgement? A really fine one, I especially like the aroma, but score the flavor equally high as they’re both 8’s, but where the aroma is an 8+, the flavor is an 8-. Anyway, it’s a beer I wish I had more of. 110630
