On cask at the Stan Laurel. Appearance - amber with a decent head. Nose - toffee and a touch of pale malt. Taste - toffee and apple. Some biscuit and spice on the end. Palate - light to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - not sure itโ€™s an ESB by modern standards but enjoyable despite not having the extra depth.

Cask at the Brown Hare, Penwortham. Pours clear gold, thick foamy white head. Light malt aromas, caramel mostly. Taste is also lightly sweet, with the merest hint of hop bitterness. Creamy texture, clean finish. Nice session beer.

Hand-pulled half-pint in The Wheatsheaf at Chetwyn Aston on 11th Jan 2014 during a CAMRA road trip. Good solid golden body with a full white crown of foaming bubbles. The aroma was a pleasant blend of malt molasses: fruity and semi-sweet caramel esters being the main smells. The taste was also malty and fruity, with very little hop evidence throughout: a mild citrus feel however does appear as the beer warmed in the glass. Medium body depth that carries the flavours and alcohol easily: decent, without setting the world alight.

Bottle at home from local shop. Light amber / copper colour with a loose big buble white head. Aroma is initally caramel and toffee and some diacetyl. The is some socks and nuts. Flavour is biscuit caramel malt, tartness in the finiish, some evident stalling. Medium sweet and medium body. Really not very good.
