Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear deep amber with a copper hue and a near white head that dissipates to the edges slowly. Aroma has earthy grains, a bit of chocolate and a hint of roast. Flavor has chocolate and dark bread with a bit of earthiness underlying.

On tap at Lord Nelson, pours a hazy dark mahogany with a small off-white head. Aroma brings out toasted malt, bready caramel malt, and toffee. Flavour is quite malty, with notes of toffee, bready malt and bready caramel. Light-bodied despite beige malty-heavy. Solid.

330ml bottle into glass. Dark caramel toffee nose. Ruby red beer with billowing cream coloured head. No apparent carbonation. Lightly fizzy on the tongue, medium body. Initial fruity (watermelon?) finish followed by lasting toasted malts. A touch of alcohol right at the end. Not bad.
