Bottle. Brown color with creamy beige head. Aroma is super bacon, nice smoke. Taste is chocolate, umami, light sweetness, surprisingly balanced smoke. Oily mouthfeel with natural carbonation. Very tasty!

On tap at 7 Stern, Vienna, Austria. February 2014. Shared with lovely Anja, Dražen Kermit, Pero and others! Was already drunk while taking notes. Dark brown-red, tan to beige lasting head. Smoked ham, intense smoke aroma. To sweet, then to salty, excessive. Full taste is an illusion here, it’s the sugars! Excessive beer.

The beer starts great roasted. Intense woods, great smoke with not too much sweetness or malt. Great and interesting smoke profile. The aftertaste is nice smokey, malty smooth. No sweetness, nearly no bitterness with a smooth fresh smoke.

1st Rating, February 2nd 2015: bottle at home, bought at the brewpub. dark amber color, off-white head. smells smoked, bacon, some berries like cassis & sour cherries. full body, lots of carbonation, wooden notes, smoky, some fruits / red berry notes, light alcoholic / liqueurish. light malty bitter finish. taste is very subtle smoky (compared to armoma), which for me is a good thing. drinks pretty easy. Rerate 25.07.2015. 500ml bottle at home. BB 02/2015. brown hazy color, small off-white head. smells smoky, earthy, bacon, ligthly sour, light fruit notes. medium to full body, soft carbonation, slick mouthfeel. tastes smoky, earthy, lightly sour, acidic, chorizo. finishes malty roasty, lightly sour, with smoke notes. still quite nice. I would give this again a 3.7, still quite nice, slightly more sour (after all this is almost 6 months old).

Draught at the brewpub.
Dark brown, hazy body, with a medium, dense, creamy, beige head, that laces a lot.
Aroma mainly of bacon, also bread and sweet malts, like honey and caramel.
Taste with about the same aromas, but with the bready and sweet malts more in the foreground and also with a bit booze.
Medium, quite creamy mouthfeel, with an average carbonation.
Finishes with a lot of bacon again, roasty, sweet malty, a bit boozy and astringent.
Very nice! Not that extraordinary, but really quaffable and with a good balance between loads of bacon and sweet, smooth malts. Overall my favourite Rauchbier from Austria I’m always looking forward to at the beginning of the year!
