The latest release in our Abstrakt series. Aged for over 14 months in barrels, AB:13 is an 11.3% Cherry Imperial Stout aged in ex Sherry whisky barrels.

Cherry & Sherry, the recipe was devised by our production manager Nikola and is based on the classic German Schwarzlwald dessert. This is very, very special. Pretty much all of our team have been blown away by this oak aged beer as it rattled off our bottling line.

Aroma coffee, chocolate, fruity. Almost black colour, dark btown head. Taste is strong, complex and good. Sherry is distinguishable, with high alcohol, roasted malts, chocolate and coffee. Excellent balance, sweet and bitter, warming and smooth. Heavy and easily drinkable. Masterpiece.

375ml bottle from Appellation Wines. Pours opaque black with a fawn creamy head. The nose has ginger cake and treacle. The taste has deep flavours of cherry, then major whisky notes. then a ginger biscuit finish. The palate is large in structure with a creamy rich texture and a very long finish which is biscuity but dominated by alcohol. Overall, it’s very big, nice combinations of flavours, it perhaps needs some bottle ageing to integrate the flavours. A dessert beer perhaps.
