Our Naughty 90 Oaked IPA was inspired by ocean bound, oak barreled brews of the 1800’s. Packed with hops on a 90-minute schedule, uniquely malted, then aged on a bed of oak, this IPA delivers a taste that is both innovative and timeless.

Admin Note: Brewed as an IPA through 2016. In 2017 marketing switched to an Oaked Ale. This entry is the for the Naughty 90 IPA.

Pours deep mahogany into a tulip. White head with medium retention recedes to skim surface. Chocolate and mocha aromas. Soft with coffee, vanilla and toffee upfront turning to cocoa and resin in the slick lasting finish

Pours a slightly murky, brass-copper color, with middling head. Aroma has some grassiness, a touch of hops, and a lot of oak. Flavor is very oaky as well, with some grass, some hops, and an odd, lingering sweetness. Doesn’t really taste very IPA-like, which is interesting--shows there are some other avenues to take the style in.

22 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 6/9/2016. Pours slightly hazy deep orange/copper color with a 1-2 finger dense and rocky light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big grapefruit, orange peel, peach, pear, pineapple, light pepper/pine, vanilla, caramel, toffee, toasted oak, brown sugar, biscuit, light nuttiness/roast, herbal, floral, light grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of citrus/earthy hops, fruity yeast, oak, and dark/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big grapefruit, orange peel, peach, pear, pineapple, light pepper/pine, vanilla, caramel, toffee, toasted oak, brown sugar, biscuit, light nuttiness/roast, herbal, floral, light grass, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/pine bitterness and oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of grapefruit, orange peel, peach, pear, pineapple, vanilla, caramel, toffee, toasted oak, brown sugar, biscuit, light nuttiness/roast, herbal, floral, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/earthy hops, fruity yeast, oak, and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from bitter/spiciness, lightly increasing through the glass. Medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky, and lightly sticky/tannic mouthfeel that is awesome. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming for 8.2%. Overall this is an outstanding oak aged English DIPA! All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/earthy hops, fruity yeast, oak, and dark/bready malt flavors; with smooth and easy to drink for the ABV. Very unique for the style, but very complex from the prominent oak influenced flavors. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle: Cloudy brown with a small beige head. Caramel, oak, coffee aroma. Taste is chocolate and coffee malt, oak caramel malt....nutty.... I’m sure I’d never call it an IPA in a blind taste, but I don’t care.....This is delicious, wonderful stuff......

Bottle. Strong fresh oak/pine, toffee malt, and orange peel aroma. Hazy dark amber with small head. Moderately sweet orange toffee malt, light astringent dry oak, and moderately bitter orange peel/pine flavor. Nice body and balance. Very good - unique, unlike any other IPA I’ve had. Oak definitely dominates the character of this beer.

Bottle at THT thanks to kermis. Light brown with fluffy beige head. Caramel, lots of it, vanilla, chocolate, quite herbal, Haagse hopjes, Indian spices. Light sweet and medium bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Very nice, nowhere near an IPA but I’m loving it.
