With a beer as bold and robust as Stone Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout, it’s not easy to build another level of flavor. That’s why we use hundreds of pounds of espresso beans to give Stone Espresso Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout an added layer of rich complexity. The coffee flavors meld beautifully with the roasty bitterness of the dark malts for an intense complement of flavors, while staying true to the essence of this classic, historical style.

02-09-20 // 355ml can from Stumpf. Banging bitterness. Roasted bitter finish dominates everything. A little sweet body with chocolate and coffee in the front. And them the roast, little ashy, dry espresso bitterness. I like. Brewed in RVA Feb19.

0.355 l can from 'Craft Bier Bude' (aka REWE von Wantoch), canned in 2019. Pitch black with a medium large, frothy, stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, quite roasty aroma of dark chocolate, lots of coffee and some caramel. Quite sweet, malty, rather roasty-bitter taste of massive coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, some licorice and traces of nuts, followed by a long, very roasty-bitter, earthy and a little warming finish. Full body, smooth and creamy mouthfeel, soft to average carbonation. Rather unbalanced with a massive amount of coffee and high roastiness as well bitterness but still likeable.

Black pour with a medium light brown head that dissipates steadily to a film. Small patches of lace. Aroma of roast malt, coffee and dark chocolate. Full-bodied with a roasty coffee character and notes of charred malt and bittersweet chocolate. The finish is roasty espresso and malt. Pretty good overall.
