With a beer as bold and robust as Stone Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout, it’s not easy to build another level of flavor. That’s why we use hundreds of pounds of espresso beans to give Stone Espresso Totalitarian Imperial Russian Stout an added layer of rich complexity. The coffee flavors meld beautifully with the roasty bitterness of the dark malts for an intense complement of flavors, while staying true to the essence of this classic, historical style.

Marked improvement over straight Totalitarian. Strong espresso notes smooth out the original’s rough edges, adding a layer of coffee cherry acidity to the modest citric hop notes. Tons of dark chocolate, anise, and roast, with a rich, bitter finish laced with molasses, dark fruit, and coffee. Beautiful pour, beautiful beer.

32oz crowler pours with a deep dark body that supports a thin dark tan head of foam. The aroma offers up an initial hit of dark roasted malts and dark roasted coffee before milk chocolate takes over into the end of the draw. The taste delivers full firm dark roasted malts to dark roasted coffee to almost burnt malts riding above a river of mildly sweet milk chocolate. To midway it picks up a faint chicory sensation. Nice sipper that comes across a little thin in body but thick on flavor.
