Salted Caramel Porter. What starts as a traditional porter takes a turn once caramel and salt are added to this brew. The use of chocolate malt even gives it flavors of chocolate that reminds you of a piece of candy.

Pours near black with an aroma of roast malt, caramel and a little coffee. The flavor is a bit salty with caramel and dark roast malt. Medium bodied. I’d like it a little more robust but this is pretty good.

12oz, warm shelf, canned 12/20/22, drunk 6/20/23. Dark with deep mahogany highlights, high clarity, small, dark beige head, moderate retention. Get some caramel, maybe a touch of salinity with it, as well as fudgey chocolate. Almost smells like a bit of lactose, or maybe it's just sweet malt. Clean, though, with no alcohol. Bit of sourishness, maybe lactose? Or if not then it's the butter from the caramel? It's very prickly carbonated, with some semblance of maltiness, but a bit thin at points. Definitely giving it a bit of a pass since it sat warm for 6 months (though honestly, most beer stores don't fridge dark beers anyways). Don't think the salt and caramel add much; would rather just taste the porter character more, though maybe it's better fresh on draught, who knows.

12 oz. can from Total Wine - Melbourne. Pours a clear very dark ruby color with a tight beige head and great retention. Good lacing. Sweet brown sugar aroma. Sweet candy caramel-forward flavor. Tastes more like a red ale than a porter. Clean and smooth. Sticky sweet mouthfeel. A little thin for the style. Low carbonation. Definitely a dessert beer. No bitterness. Too sweet for repeated consumption. Needs a bit more porter flavor.

Can from 8 Degrees Plato. Pours a deep brown to black with a quickly dissipating half finger of beige foam. Milk chocolate aromas with cocoa powder and salted caramel notes. Drier than expected on the palate with roasted coffee, muddle chocolate notes and some treacly flavors that head into the finish. The finish goes down fast with a lingering coffee and faint toasted caramel note. Nose is great, but the beer ultimately underwhelming. Not a bad beer by any means though. --- Beer merged from original tick of S.C.P. Salted Caramel Porter on 20 Aug 2019 at 00:07 - Score: 7. Original review text: Great salted caramel nose with milk chocolate and coffee aromas. Easy drinking on the palate but a bit too roasty and dry. Solid porter tho

12 ounce can into pint glass, canned on 10/13/2017. Pours crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, fudge, vanilla, marshmallow, and toasted brown bread; with lighter notes of nuttiness, coffee, sea salt, smoke, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malts, caramel, and light earthy hop/salt notes; with great strength. Taste of big milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, fudge, vanilla, marshmallow, and toasted brown bread; with lighter notes of nuttiness, coffee, sea salt, smoke, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light herbal hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, fudge, vanilla, marshmallow, toasted brown bread, light nuttiness/coffee, herbal, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, caramel, and light earthy hop/salt flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance, and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Slightly increasing dryness from hop/roast bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and lightly silky/sticky/chalky mouthfeel that us great. Zero warming alcohol as expected of 6%. Overall this is an excellent dessert style American porter! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malts, caramel, and light earthy hop/salt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink. Nicely rich and complex for the ABV; with perfectly balanced caramel and porter flavors. Not much salt, but probably only used to enhance the flavors. A very enjoyable offering.
