A traditional Extra Special Bitter whose name sake, William Smith, would have pined for in debtors prison. Ester and malt forward notes are balanced in this beer by a bitter finish.

Draft at Craft Brewed. Pours a clear gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Bready malt, light grass and lemon notes. Smooth, cereal grain & more bread w/ honey on the palate. Smooth finish, good body & light pepper that comes out as it warms. Really nice.

Comes off sweet for the style, with a mild buttered malt front fading into an off-putting toffee-corn sugariness. Esters seem lax, and the finish has a saccharine bitterness lingering through an otherwise unremarkable fade. Pretty but not all that pleasant.
