2017 version on draft at Craft Brewed. Pours a deep brown with a full 2 fingers of beige head that lingers. Baker's chocolate and brownie aromas dominate. A bit oxidized on the palate with more muted chocolate, ganache and light smoked, umami character. Lingering oak and chocolate. Not bad, but a tad past its prime.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thick black glow when held up to a light along with a smallish, single centimetre tall light brown head on top. Aroma of bourbon, alcohol, roasted malts, pure anise, fennelseed and a dose of more roast and coffee notes - super pungent, but the bourbon is by far the strongest, along with some oak. Medium-bodied; Large alcohol presence at first with some moderate warming qualities along with some good hop notes still, but the bitterness from the roasts and malts overwhelm this one, and show some rye and specialty grains instead of the hops. Aftertaste is nice, incredibly complex and quite pungent throughout - the hops show at first, the roast, grain, earthiness and malt comes through in the middle and the end is almost nothing but extremely noticeable oak, vanilla, alcohol and especially bourbon and the burn associated with it. Overall, a very nice bourbon-showing beer that definitely shows more of a porter than an IPA/Black IPA, but one that doesn't really matter, since it is good and has a very nice complexity. Worth grabbing if you can find this one - I got this on a special event here, almost all-the-way across the country! I sampled this thirty-two ounce growler fill from Whole Foods in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 12-November-2017 for US$13,00 sampled at home in Washington in front of the store later in the day on 12-November-2017 that was available on a 'tap takeover' event at the store (on 10-November-2017, but still available).

From the bottle at the brewery
Pours clear dark brown with a small beige head, good lacing. Aroma of bourbon, vanilla, woody and dark malts. Lots of bourbon, oak, vanilla, leather and licorice
Wow, they took a great beer and made it better. I wish I could have gotten a few bottles of this.

Bomber from Bine & Vine. Pours dark brown with a slight, foamy tan head. Aroma starts bourbon and then reveals dark malt. Med + body at least. Flavor is clean bourbon start, moving on to something definitely sweet in the caramel/toffee range, then some chocolate surfaces. It's not dry, but the bourbon, heat and some sort of hop balances out the sweet. The chocolate goes a bit earthy. The malt sweets around for the duration, and the bourbon dials back a bit. The overall result is better than I can describe; it tastes really good. Highly recommended.
