There is a difference between absolute bitterness and perceived bitterness. IBUs are useful for homebrewers for the purpose of clone recipes, but it doesn’t always tell the whole story. Expedition Stout is a good example. It has more IBUs than more traditional hoppy beers like Two Hearted and Hopslam.

12 oz can. Light golden pour, fully hazy with a white head. Aroma of fruity hops with mango, grapefruit citrus. Flavor is on the lighter side, fruity hops again of grapefruit, orange, pineapple, and a wheat note. Light, but not bad.

16oz can. Opaque but light orange-tan body. Foamy, white head. Solid hop combination, the interplay works well. Streamlined some, not exactly a juicebomb, but still a solid IPA. Less than two weeks old, this is still nice and fresh. A respectable enough beer, but a sort of unfortunate name and artwork...doesn't really fit the classic Bells motif so well.

Draft at Craft Brewed. Pours a clearish gold with a finger of foam that lingers. Big tropical forward nose with pineapple and mango notes coming through strong. Slight dank as it warms. Clean and crisp. Pine & mango on the finish. --- Beer merged from original tick of Official Hazy IPA on 04 Jan 2019 at 21:41 - Score: 8.
