There is a difference between absolute bitterness and perceived bitterness. IBUs are useful for homebrewers for the purpose of clone recipes, but it doesn’t always tell the whole story. Expedition Stout is a good example. It has more IBUs than more traditional hoppy beers like Two Hearted and Hopslam.

Orange, biscuit malt, pine, and grapefruit peel aroma. Cloudy golden yellow with large white head. Moderately sweet orange/lime, biscuit malt, and moderately bitter pine and grapefruit peel flavor. Good body. Nice.

Distinctly different than typical NEIPAs. Wheat gives a dry taste instead of juicy.

Pour is a hazy yellow-orange with a large white head. Aroma is sugar covered orange slices with maybe some lime juice. Flavor is dry wheat malt with a generic fruitiness lingering in the back round. Pretty much nothing is left on the tongue after the swallow. Calling this a hoppy wheat rather than a hazy IPA would be more correct. Still this was a little too safe, especially from a brewer like Bells

Can. Pours a hazy light straw color with a pretty dense head that sits a couple fingers high. Aromas are of lemon, light pineapple, and maybe some green apple or something similar that is faint enough that it is a little bit of a mystery. Maybe I'll get it dialed in somewhere down the road on this six pack. Flavor is pleasant enough... kind of light and not that sharp on the hops, but decent.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, canned on 2/7/2019. Pours very hazy/cloudy medium golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and rocky white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew, watermelon, red apple, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light toast/biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew, watermelon, red apple, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light toast/biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness. Mild pine, citrus peel/zest, herbal, floral, grassy, spicy bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of tangerine, grapefruit, lemon, peach, pear, pineapple, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, honeydew, watermelon, red apple, blueberry, gooseberry, citrus peel/zest, light pepper/pine, wheat, cracker, white bread dough, light toast/biscuit, and herbal/floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and bready malt flavors; with a solid malt/bitterness balance, and no cloying/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, creamy/bready, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 6.4%. Overall this is an excellent NEIPA. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of citrus/fruity/tropical hops and bready malt flavors; very smooth and easy to drink with the mildly bitter/drying finish, great soft feel. Great Mosaic, Citra, Azacca, Amarillo, and El Dorado profile. Very juicy and lightly dank/earthy hops; with a perfectly balancing wheat/malt backbone. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and well made style example.

Can. Hazy yellow with a white head. Lemon drop aroma. The flavor is washed out fruit with just a touch of bitterness. Very disappointing.

Dull, far removed from Bell’s usual deft hand with IPAs, a rather weak stab at a trend from a brewer who should either A) know better, or B) do better. Lacks the needed hazed juicy pop, and the creamy, mild finish offers little hop presence. Drinkable, inoffensive, but there’s nothing here.

Can. Cloudy, opaque, light apricot orange-brown body, foamy off-white head, thick initially but dissipating. Nose fits the part, with juicy citrus and tropical fruit and tangy wheat. After the initial sharp bite, there's some light tanginess and a muddled dank finish - it's not initially the round, creamy beer I anticipated, but softens with warmth, bringing out more juicy/fruity character. The low price point should make this a summer staple.
