A remarkably drinkable Double IPA that pays tribute to one of Mother Nature’s finest creations, as several hop varietals combine for massive aromas of tropical fruit, citrus and pine. A mild caramel malt character and dry finish provide balance.

12 oz. bottle, batch #8513 vs. Hopslam #7690. Not fair to compare to beers when one’s over a year old, but life ain’t fair. Hopsoulution pours much darker, like a brown ale vs. Hopslam amber. Both show a light layer of foam. Hopslam still smells of piney PNW hops, the German hops here are little harder to sniff out, but nose shows interesting hints of coffee. Body slightly hazy, no bits of husk common to Bell’s beers. Taste shows more great and drinkable malts, backed up by the sharpness and a bit of fruitiness from the hops. With a different yeast, this could have been an imperial pilsner. As it is, its slightly lower alcohol than the Hopslam lets more malt character get through, making for a heartier beer. I would have given it more if I could get a better impression off the aroma. Bought at Family Liquors, Homewood.
