Served on draft at Maduro in Madison, WI at the GTMW pre-party. Pours a clear copper color with a large offwhite creamy head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of floral and citrus hops. Tons of grapefruit. Aroma of bitter resiny, earthy and citrus hops with some faint malts. Medium bodied.

12oz bottle at Hopleaf, Chicago pours a transparent copper amber with a creamy, beige head. Big barleywine aroma, boozy, rum, cane sugar, caramel, raisins, bread, cookies. Flavor is sweet, boozy, a little medicinal, maple, caramel, turbinado sugar, raisins, a little cookie crumb, bread. Full bodied, sweet, boozy, raisin finish. Smells great, flavor is a touch flat.

Aroma: The nose is surprisingly subtle, sweet pine, grapefruit, candied sugar, and a touch of booze
Appearance: It pours a hazy reddish-orange color with a small off-white head that leaves some lace
Flavor: The taste is balanced, leaning malty, lacking the assertive hop presence I expect in this style
Palate: The body is medium-full, slightly astringent, and with a somewhat dry and slightly hot finish to it
Overall Impression: Apparently this one is only sold in Illinois, so thanks for grabbing me one, Justin! Anyway, I wouldn't call this one a IIPA at all. I guessed I'd categorize this one as a Barley Wine, but hey, what do I know? All I can say is, I've never gotten this type of alcohol/sugary feel from a Double IPA before... I'd probably rate it a drop higher if it trying to be a style it actually is.

I picked this up at Armanetti’s in Chicago, IL; enjoyed on a Thursday night watching the show Community! Aroma of caramel malt, toffee, and nature (more specifically, pine trees). Appearance is a very cloudy gold with a thin white, pronounced head. Taste is not what I was expecting, too much of a grapefruit flavor that kind of drowns out any other flavors from appearing. I’m really not into this one. Enjoyed, but would rather enjoy something else.

Bottle. Pours a coppery color with a thin head and aromas caramel, apple a little oxidation and a bit of resin. Flavor is sticky sweet with a little faded hops presence and some fruitiness.

12 oz bottle-pours a thin light tan head an hazy amber. Aroma is floral/pine hops, some medium malt, alcohol. Taste is floral/pine hops, secondary medium malt-caramel backbone, slight astringency, alcohol.

Bottle thanks to bu11zeye. Weird beer! No where near the power in flavor or alcohol to be a double IPA for me. Pours with an off-white head that fades to a ring over the clear amber body. Aroma is an odd hop astringency, with a weird spiciness from more pepper than hop. Light fruits as well. Taste is just odd, really weird hop they used. Berries and light syrupy as well . Lively bubbles and water like mouthfeel.

12oz bottle shared by heemer77, thanks man. Pours with a clear, dark amber color. The surface coving lacing sits around for a while. Aroma is sweet maltiness with just some light earthy hops peaking through. Taste us sweet caramel with a little leafy aftertaste. A malt centered DIPA and the weird hops don’t stand out as anything special. But overall good stuff I could easily drink.

Courtesy of gillard. Pours hazy copper with thin tan head. The aroma is kind of mild with some citrus, spice, tangelo and pine hops with some nice added maltiness in the back. The taste is up front citrus to pine to spice hop bitterness with a suitable malt backbone sweetening things up a bit. As the midpoint approaches the bitterness surges before a brief pulse of sugar malts hits from behind. It gets progressively more bitter into the finish. Yum.
