In the analog age of music, artists recorded take take after take, experimenting with new sounds until a great record emerged. Our Alternate Takes series offers a peek into our iterative and creative R&D process, where each batch is celebrated as its own off-centered hit.
Alternate Takes #3 is an Imperial IPA brewed with a massive amount of juicy hops. It’s burst-hopped in the brewhouse with Warrior, Simcoe, Mosaic and Amarillo. Then it gets double dry-hopped with Galaxy, Citra, Amarillo, Mosaic and Simcoe.

Tap at J’s. Pours a deep gold with a finger of white head that lingers. Big grapefruit aromas with some light toffee, candied orange...lots of Amarillo coming out. Sweet orange, peach, apricot all appear on the palate. A touch sweet, but a really nice lingering, dry finish. Well-done DFH!

12 oz pour on draft at Dogfish Head Alehouse Falls Church. Poured a pretty much clear golden orange color with a small off-white head. Aroma was nice citrus notes, boozy notes come through - not sickly sweet which is a nice surprise. Lots of citrus peel, pine notes. Light caramel notes - not totally unbalanced, but nice light malt notes with a strong hop character to it. Alcohol is there, and it is warming, but it’s not overpowering. Nice!
