Our friends at Gracenote are masters at the art, science, and complexity of coffee roasting, tasting, and extraction. For this beauty, we worked in conjunction with them to select a coffee that would perfectly support and complement Abstraction. Given the characteristics of the base beer, we selected a coffee with solid structure and complexity, and with firm acidity to provide lift and balance (Kenya Kavutiri AB). The result is truly greater than the sum of its parts. It tastes like the most beautifully harmonious cup of coffee we’ve ever had, with virtually no bitterness, and densely packed coffee flavors. It is richly flavorful without weighing down the palate, and it finishes cleanly and boldly.

Can thanks to JMFP. Pours black with medium tan head that lasts. The aroma is dark chocolate, roasted malt, licorice. Medium body, dark chocolate, licorice, bitter roast finish, very good.

Sample at the Brisket and Beer tasting on 11/02/2019. Black pour with a medium thin khaki head that recedes steadily to a wispy film. Sparse patches of lace. Aroma of coffee, roast malt and chocolate. Medium body with flavors of roast coffee, chocolate malt, dark fruit and a bit of hops. The finish is roasty with a coffee and malt aftertaste. Pretty good all around.

Can (10/3/19) pour into nonic pint glass from the brewery. Appearance is opaque, inky black (floaties noticeable in direct light), 2-finger fizzy, dark brown head with poor retention and no lacing. Aroma is roasted bitter coffee and sweet malts. Taste is dominant bitter roasted coffee over roasted sweet malts and late moderate alcohol burn. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with thick, smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, aroma and flavor are strong but alcohol burn, lack of complexity, floaties and ephemeral head and no lacing all are minor detractors. Pleasant enough but not great by Tree House standards and other coffee porters I'd prefer.

2 week old can. Bold coffee that smooths out towards the finish. Rich full body for a porter. Shows some bitterness to balance. Very well rounded and quite nice.

Canned 10/12, drunk 11/9/18.
Ebony, tan head to ring. Undetermined clarity.
Very strong but delightfully fruity and rounded coffee. Strong ash below it but its not dulling. Grape and plum keep it bright and fruity with a hint of vanilla and light chocolate. Again it's low on sugar and focused on the barley character. No alcohol or flaw. I like how clearly you can smell the coffee yet it slowly and steadily becomes intertwined with the rest of the beer.
Fruity, soft and malty. Nicely attenuated with plum, currant, prune, vanilla and lingering coffee roast. Shockingly low roasted bitterness. Lovely and balanced like the base, but with a fruity, lightly earthy, incredibly flavorful coffee character. I usually don't like adding stuff to a base beer but you can't argue with this coffee addition. It's unbelievable. Low but engaging carbonation, richly soft textures and no alcohol or flaw. Damn.
