Take our 10HL pilot kit. It is the place our brewers let those imaginations fly and lay down unpredictable, creative tracks. Our brew team use it to dial in our small-scale experimental brews, each then finding its way to our bars as a draught-only special release.
However, we felt the naming convention used previously – Pilot Brew XXX – didn't fully reflected the ingenuity displayed by our brewers. To depict this a little better we now release each pilot brew as a bona fide B-Side; alongside our production-batch launches that take place at our bars, you’ll be able to discover a flip side in the form of one of our B-Side releases.

Tap at Kompaan as Proto Red Ale 2.0. Clear amber with off white head that leaves lots of lacing. Fruity hops up front, lime, mango, some grass, nice malts with biscuits, roasted nuts and even cookie dough. Light sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with slick feel.

Cask @ BrewDog, Sheffield. Glowing darker-deep red with a thinnish head. Hoppy in the main, with a grain based sweetness defining its character

Keg at BD Sheps Boost, 21/03/16. Reddish amber with a well appointed light beige head. Nose is earthy hops, light spice, floral notes, grain, caramel, pine needle. Taste comprises red grapefruit, pine, caramel biscuit, straw, orange peel. Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close peppered with punchy hop bitterness. Solid hoppy amber.

Keg at Brewdog clerkenwell. Reddy copper coloured pour with a thin sticky off white head. Aroma is big citrus orange, toasted malts, burnt citrus, little plastic. Flavour is composed of light grains with hints of toasted bread, burnt orange rind, little chalky mineral in the finish. Palate is medium light, slightly thin. High carbonation, very dry in the finish. Decent, bit tame.

Keg at BrewDog Camden. It pours clear deep red with a thick beige head. The aroma is fresh, juicy, pine, bitter - sweet, varnish, orange peel, baked goods and a touch of jam. The taste is bitter, pine, resin, varnish, some brown bread, cereal, blood orange, caramel and a touch of pepper with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Not quite up to 5am, but it’s well - rounded and very drinkable.
