For this limited offering we pushed beyond the typical barrel-aged beer theory. We got our hands on some Reposado Tequila oak barrels and then aged our new Otra Vez Gose with Lime and Agave. This Trip in the Woods starts out tart yet juicy, with hints of lime. For the finish? The unmistakable silkines of a classic Reposado.

750 c&c from Total Wine in Folsom, CA. Pours translucent orange tinged gold with a white head. Aroma of lime, light malt and tequila. Perhaps a wood note. Med body. Flavor is tequila, lime, wood and a sourish note. It would qualify for dry, if the agave hadn't survived. Fair amount of tequila and wood at the finish of each quaff. Lime becomes stronger as time goes on. Not my favorite TitW, but pretty good.

Sampled on draft at 3 Rivers this beer poured a yellow-gold color with a medium sized foamy white head that left good lacing. The aroma was tangy and sweet citrus and tequila. The flavor was sweet and yeasty with tequila, lime and lemon. Long finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth.

Draft. A- Tequila, lime. A- Gold color, clear liquid, white head. T- Tequila, lime. P- Light body, average texture, average carbonation, boozy finish. O- This pretty much just tastes like a mid-tier reposado tequila. Doesn't taste cheap and in fact drinks nicely. Hard to believe this is only 6.4%. Tastes like 20% in the best way possible. If you don't like tequila, this isn't for you. On the other hand, I enjoyed it quite a lot.

Draft at Craft Brewed. Pours a clear, deep gold with a finger of foam that dissipates. Lime forward nose with some agave and oak notes. Lime and lemon tartness, but not overly so. The barrel really mellows the tartness it seems. Some sweet agave as well. Light tequila notes but they aren't overly boozy like a lot of tequilla barrel aged beers. Enoyable, but probably better to share with friends.

Not much different than normal Otra Vez; all the tequila-aging does is make the pint taste more like a watered-down margarita than a watered-down gose. Moderate lime and grapefruit tart notes are offset by agave sweetness, with a pilsner-ish malt undertone adding to the overall bland vibe. Not much oak, not much tequila, not much of anything, really. More like a walk in the grass than a trip in the woods.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/7/2018. Pours crystal clear pale golden yellow color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lightly tart limes, lemon, citrus zest, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white wine, sea salt, tequila, oak, hay, straw, grass, agave, honey, wheat, and white bread; with light notes of cinnamon, oaken vanilla, lacto funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of fruity/acidic yeast, limes, agave, tequila barrels, and pale/wheat malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lightly tart limes, lemon, citrus zest, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white wine, sea salt, tequila, oak, hay, straw, grass, agave, honey, wheat, and white bread; with light notes of cinnamon, oaken vanilla, lacto funk, and yeast/oak earthiness. Light-moderate fruity/lactic tartness and light tequila/oak spiciness on the finish. Lingering notes of tart limes, lemon, citrus zest, orange, grapefruit, peach, pear, melon, red/green apple, white wine, sea salt, tequila, oak, hay, straw, grass, agave, honey, wheat, white bread, light cinnamon/vanilla/funk, and yeast/oak earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, limes, agave, tequila barrels, and pale/wheat malt flavors; with an awesome malt/tartness and tequila/oak spiciness balance; with no puckering flavors after the finish. Fairly crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from tartness and tequila/oak spiciness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready/grainy, fairly acidic, and lightly tannic/saline balanced mouthfeel that is fantastic. Zero warming alcohol for 6.4%. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged Gose! All around outstanding outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/acidic yeast, limes, agave, tequila barrels, and pale/wheat malt flavors; very smooth, refreshing, and fairly crisp/clean to drink with the mellowly acidic/drying finish. Not overly lactic or salty. Basically tastes like imperial Otra Vez, with perfect Tequila barrel integration. A bit sweeter on malt/agave, and juicy on fruit/Lacto notes; but still ending nicely crisp and drying from acidity. A highly enjoyable offering, and spot on style example as expected.
