Looking for a fresh take on Oktoberfest beer?

Breckenridge Brewery's fall seasonal combines the malty goodness of a German lager with the clean crispness of an American ale. Brewed with Munich malts and a delicate blend of Bavarian hops, our Autumn Ale is a full-bodied treat with a nutty-sweet middle, a warming alcohol level and notes of toasted grains. A pre-winter winner.

Real nice malt on this one. Not too sweet like some of the other marzen/ofest beers

Location: Draft at HopsScotch, 9/22/11

Aroma: The aroma is pretty much just earth, spice, and roasted malts
Appearance: Has a dark brown/black pour, a lasting light brown head, and sheety lace
Flavor: The taste is light sweet up-front, with a roasty, spice, and earthy hop finish
Palate: The body is medium, the carbonation is soft, and there is a tingly, spicy feel to the finish
Overall Impression: I thought that this one was an interesting fall offering. It isn't an amazing beer, but it is certainly worth trying.

Pours a nice, darkish-brown with good head. Malt/hop aroma. Very smooth, sweet flavor with the malt forward and some slight hop bitterness to the finish. This would, indeed, make a nice beer for after finishing the raking of the leaves!

Bottle. Pours a dark amber with small off white head. The aroma is a bready malt and raisin. Thin mouthfeel with a sweet malt and raisin with metallic finish. A decent Old ale from Breckenridge.

12 oz bottle given to be by Litewait during a recent tasting. Color is a dark brown with some red hues. Light head, next to no lace. Roasted malt nose, traces of German hops. Flavor is of malty, toasted nuts ,raisins and Euro hops. Mouthfeel is medium in body with malt predominate. Creamy and extremely drinkable and I would purchase, a nice PRE-winter warmer indeed! Makes me want to have another.

Bottle from Supermarket Liquors in Fort Collins, CO. Pours really dark brown with a tan head. Warm brown ale aroma. Med body with foamy carbonation. This is pleasantly malty, with a touch lite of chocolate, and it has a very little bitter. I prefer bitter beer, but this one is the exception. Good stuff.

Bottle thanks to 17thfloor! Poured near black with a red hue and a small light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma is full of dark grains with a bit of coffee and dark chocolate. Flavor is similar with lots of dark grains that mellow slightly that allows a sweeter chocolate note to come out.

12 oz. bottle, $1.50 loose at HyVee. Dark brown pour, a layer of foam that’s gone quickly. Dark roast malt smell with a bit of chocolate and licorice. This is no "substitute" for Oktoberfest, this is a big dark ale, not for slamming in the biergarten. Some impy stout impressions, licorice again, toffee and coffee roast with a carefully match hop backup. Has some alcohol taste to it, more that its abv would suggest. A bit of Scotch peat, but mostly a big malty, earthy ale.
