Braggot is traditionally made with 50% malt and 50% honey and it has a fascinating history, dating right back to medieval times. In fact, it is used in Chaucer's Canterbury Tales to evocatively describe the sweet lips of the carpenter's wife:
'
Her mouth was sweete as bragot or the meeth,
Or hoord of apples leyd in hey or heeth.'

Our interpretation of this historic beer was made with Suffolk hops, barley and hiney from the north Suffolk Breckland. It was fermented with our own wild yeast and aged in a whisky barrel. Not surprisingly, it has picked up some really interesting, funky flavours that are continuing to develop and mature all the time.

It is very much a drink to sip and savour!

Keg at BD Sheps Boost, 26/07/18. Light haze on a golden blonde pour with a decent off white cap that clears to a swirl. Nose is damp clothes, barnyard notes, soggy buttery popcorn, grains, light diaper notes. Taste comprises more buttery notes, rotting peanut butter, barnyard esters, light brett dollop, funk, wooded notes, sharp fruits. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close with a warming level of alcohol. Quite challenging!

330ml bottle. Pours hazy dark orange with no head. Aroma is woody ashy sour. Taste has a sharp sourness and a little whisky to start. Sharp sour ashy finish. Funky honey aftertaste. Challenging, but in a good way.
