Ommegang's brewers spent several years refining their ideas of what a "perfect" tripel would be. In the original style, a Belgian tripel is a strong golden ale, from 8.5% to 10% ABV, with fruity flavors and aromas coming from the yeast. Tripels are simply brewed, but with great attention to detail. Ommegang Tripel Perfection goes beyond the exquisite attention to detail and adds spices to subtly enhance aromas and flavors. The result is a fine ale honoring Belgian brewing tradition, while also expanding on it in the new Ommegang tradition.

Hazy golden coloured body with a rich, thick, five to six centimetre tall off-white head that leaves a pretty nice lace on top that shows mostly of raw honey and a bit of wax on top - nice. Aroma of coriander seed, a heavy hand of cloves, some relatively pungent alcohol and honey along with a bit dose of curacao and some dry earthy notes as well - strong and showing a lot of character throughout. Medium to Full-bodied; Exceptionally rich earthy and grainy flavour with a dose of citrus, coriander seed, curacao, honey and even some apples and pears noticeable, but the alcohol cannot be hidden - strong and pungent throughout, despite the age. Aftertaste is nice and mostly sweet, with a nice grainy and earth note and a little citrus and orange flavour at the tail end as well. Overall, a nice and robust beer that shows some roundness to the harsher edges and a still pungent beer, but relatively easy-going product, given it's nearly 3 year age in my basement. Nice to sample and well worth keeping it for this period of time to snuff out the pungency, but this still shows some bite and is best keeping for a while before drinking, if they still brew this. I sampled this corked and caged 75cL bottle purchased from Costco in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 24-June-2015 for US$11,99 sampled at home in Washington after returning from New York itself and after the 2018 Winter Olympics ended in PyeongChang, [Republic of / South] Korea on 26-February-2018.

From a variety pack: pours hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is quite spicy, fruity, sugary, not boozy. Taste is rather thick, sweet, and spicy. Hefty body. Lingeringn coriander aftertaste. A rather proper tripel.

750 ml bottle. Color is dark gold with lasting head in a snifter. Aroma is sweet grain, citrus and just a bit of the house yeast.

The flavor shows a sweet grain base with honey notes, apricots skins, Apple and a very mild spice toward the finish. The alcohol is very mild with a slight warming after the sip. The texture has a chewy yeast character with a creamy carbonation level with a mild tingle over the tongue. Ommegang used to be a go-to brewery for me and this beer makes me remember why I liked them so much. A very well executed example of the style and very tasty. I could drink the whole 750 myself.

Pretty nice. Light hint of citrus with good florals and light coriander. Pours hazy rich orange with OK head and lacing. Light sweet finish. Soft carbonation. Palate is lighter than I like in triples but still well balanced and well done. Tap at Scion.

On tap at PNP Charleston. Hazy golden with medium white head. Aroma is golden with medium white head. Aroma is nice banana, medium body, medium/light carbonation, and thick small-bubble lacing. Taste is fruity (mostly banana), some yeast, some alcohol, with a dry finish. Not my kind of tripel.

750 ml bottle into signature tulip glass, bottled on 11/12/2014. Pours slightly cloudy deep golden color with a 2-3 finger dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big lemon, orange peel, apricot, pear, apple, banana, coriander, clove, pepper, bubblegum, honey, candi sugar, bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Fantastic aromas with awesome complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale/bready malt notes; with great strength. Taste of big lemon, orange peel, apricot, pear, apple, banana, coriander, clove, pepper, bubblegum, honey, candi sugar, bread, herbal, floral, grass, and yeast earthiness. Good amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of lemon, orange peel, apricot, pear, apple, banana, coriander, clove, pepper, bubblegum, honey, candi sugar, bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Incredible complexity and robustness of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale/bready malt flavors; with an awesome crisp malt/yeast/spice balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and slightly prickly/bready mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an absolutely incredible spiced tripel style. All around outstanding balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, spices, and pale/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. An insanely delicious offering.
