Hops + hops + hops!
Our version of the 'West Coast' IPA - the beer that sparked a revolution
When Brett arrived from California he couldn’t believe there weren’t any of his beloved ‘West Coast’ IPAs readily available in the UK. This beer is his version of the style that sparked the craft beer revolution in the US.
Among the orchards and pastures of the green and pleasant Somerset countryside you’ll find our unusual brewery. Our neighbours at Westcombe Dairy make one of the finest Cheddars in the world and Madness balances its intensity and flavours perfectly.
Our Madness IPA uses four classic American hops renowned for their citrus and resinous characteristics. Amarillo, Citra, Centennial and Columbus – used somewhat liberally in late hop and dry hop additions – make this beer what it is. We use a very simple malt bill, and a yeast with a very low flavour impact so that the hops can really shine.
Open the bottle to a tropical punchbowl of aromas, as this beer is all about the hops. There are masses and masses of late hops and dry hops to maximise the beautiful flavours and aromas, so you can experience wave after wave of tropical and citrus fruits.

Off white fluffy head left a good cover on a hazy dark orange coloured body. Pungent orange & tangerine aroma. Smooth. Thin to medium body - cloying on the palate. Tangy orange flavours, grapefruit, nectarine, mango & a hoppy dry, crisp long aft.

Bottled (Spontaneous KSMT tasting).Hazy goldeny orange colour, small white head. Aroma is toffee, lots of fruits, some berries, mild honey, nectar as well as some slight grassy and herbal notes. Flavour is fruity, some tropical fruit concentrate, mild herbs, spices and some sweet malts to it. Balanced and nicely fruity IPA. Refreshing.

0.33l bottle. This is a cloudy looking golden orange one with a medium sized slightly bubbly just off-white lacing head. On the nose I get a nice sweet peachy fruity hoppy theme. It has tones of apricots mixed with grassy hops, some malt sweetness and a little bit of clear clean citrus freshness. Yeah, smells nice indeed. Tastes like I just got it fresh from a tapbreally. It has that nice small bubbled carbonation and a good oily mouthfeel. This has to be more than, oh yeah. It's not a 4.7 abv one as I thought when popping the cap. Tastes really nice. It's fruity and contains of lots of good quality hops. Superb in the steaming sun. 19.07.2014

330 ml. can shared. BBF 23/11/2016. Deep amber, creamy white. Nose is massive pine resin, very thick goop, tree bark, pine resin syrup, hugely thick. Neat. Taste is nowhere as harsh or insane as the can tries to make you believe, pine resin goop, sweetish caramel, creamy milky, bread. A bit too milky for me but decent & enjoyable.
