The first sip of this brilliant, red-brown beer reveals a robust mouth feel and complex flavors including raisin, dark bread, some sherry flavors sure to increase with age, resin hops, a touch of old barrel. With the finish comes the aroma and flavor of Columbus hops in your mouth, being followed by the alcohol warmth that can be felt down your throat.

the nose is chocolate, plums, brown sugar and malt. The head is relatively thin, off-white and fluffy. Lots of dark rich tastes going on here - exactly what I am looking for in a BW. Roasted malt, caramel, dark berries and raisins are nicely set against fruity hops. Hazelnuts, slightly burnt butter, a touch of chocolate, chewy malt and a nice booziness round out a great taste profile.

Sample at the Winking Lizard Epic Tap Takeover on 03/14/2015. This beer pours a hazy mahogany-brown color with a medium beige head that recedes steadily to an outer ring. Patchy lacing on the glass. The aroma consists of roast malt, caramel and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of caramel malt, earthy hops and dark fruit. The finish is malty up front with a resiny hops aftertaste. Above average overall.

Barley wine bottle share on 1/31, batch #14. More hoppy than other barley wines, not necessarily a bad thing. Lots of barley sweetness, ruby brown pour, some sticky lacing. A little flat on the finish, but really really good overall.

Numbered bottle. Pours hazy dark amber with medium beige foamy head, strong hops and roasted malt aroma, low carbonation, slightly sweet oak flavored taste with bitter resionus ending, long finish with slightly astringent aftertaste. Strong stuff!

Bottle from Bottleworks, Seattle; release 14, 10.4% ABV, batch 1294
Hazy mahogany color with small head. Malt and perfume aroma, dash of dusty roasty malts. Round mouthfeel, malty flavor, caramel, a bit nutty, sweet but not syrupy; the bitterness level is correct; the fruity and resiny level of hops is moderate.
Nice but not impressive.

Bottle - Caramel and bready malts with a bit of hoppy spice. Clear amber with a thin beige head. Caramel with a long hop bitterness. A little on the harsh side, but OK.

22 oz. bottle, pours a dark caramel orange amber with a small head. Aroma brings out toasted chestnuts, spicy hops, and a touch of caramel bready malt. Flavour is very similar, with lots of spice, toasted nuts, and dry dark fruits. Too spicy and nutty for a barley wine. Acceptable, but off the mark for me.

Tap at Yellow Ape. Pretty amber-brown with lace. Nose of stewed fruits, caramel, some alcohol burn. Rich and tasty, dried fruits, oranges, wine. Very nice.
