Bottle from the shop at Yorkshire Terrier, York. Very dark with next to no head. It's quite strong tasting, but also very smooth tasting with mild roasted malts here, and better stated ones in its nose.

Mom brought this one back from a trip to England. +++ Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a medium sized soapy brown head that left decent lacing. The aroma was malty with cookie dough, marzipan, yeast and a touch of roasty malts. The flavor was bitter, dryish and roasty with bread dough, cooke dough and a hint of cocoa. Long finish. Moderately full bodied and smooth. Decent.

Keg, one-third pint at Mr Foleys Cask Ale House. Near-black body under a patchy fawn-coloured head. Smell of grainy chocolate. Taste of molasses and earthy chocolate. Dark fruity ending. Not quite in tune. (Leeds 04.07.2017).

Bottle from York Brewery, purchased September 2016 and consumed November 27, 2016. Dark brown, almost black with a little red as the light shines through the glass. Aroma initially has a little soy sauce, which I often expect from an English imperial. Heavily roasted malt in the aroma as well. Rich flavor, malt with a heavy roast, some oatmeal maybe, a bit of dark chocolate. Good palate, carbonation seems surprisingly high even though there is little head. Palate is otherwise a little thin for the style but it is good.

7.5%. 330ml bottle shared with Ashton McCobb. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aromas of soy sauce, light balsamic, meaty notes too. Taste is all of this, plus some chocolate on the finish. Nice and rich.

Bottle from Trembling Madness. Appearance - close to opaque black with a nice fawn head. Nose - meat reduction, some soy vinegar strangely, almost a ginger cake thing too, maybe a liquorice cake. Taste - again very savoury, tonnes of soy but then saltiness with a chocolate at the back. Palate - medium bodied with a dry tangy middle section and a very long dry, smoky, liquorice finish. Overall - really lovely.
