WEST's first stout sits like a pint of fresh espresso with its smooth dark body and creamy long-lasting head, alongside a fudgy aroma and bold smoky flavours reminiscent of a French roast coffee. Notice the flavour profile change in the WEST Black as the temperature slowly increases in the glass.

330ml bottle from Asda - Jet black, little tan head. Big on the coffee and roast malts, liquorice and chocolate, but a little thin in the mouthfeel.

Tap at West. Darkest brown to black, creamy tanned head. Roast, cocoa, pleasant sweetness, medium body, creamy sparkling. Sweetness balanced well by roast bitterness and herbal notes.

Keg at the Brewery. Pours black with the merest tan head. Aromas of coffee and light smoke. Taste is more roasted malts. Has a similar mouthfeel to the pilsner. Some dry cocoa comes through on the finish.

Black beer, white head. Aroma is light and malty, taste is rich, chocolatey malt with a touch of bitterness. The aftertaste is slightly watery but it’s a nice, clean stout that does the job.
