Clear dark reddish brown with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, dark malts, dried fruit, spices and yeast. Very sweet flavor with an alcoholic and soft finish. The sweetness is not balanced as well as in other Belgian strong ales. 190111

Warning! Early amateur rating! A very dark ale. Crisp palate. Nice flavour but marred by a long bitter malt finish. Lacks the drinkability of its βDarkβ sibling.

(Bottle, Monkβs CafΓ© Wallingatan, Stockholm, 15 Dec 2010) Dark reddish brown colour with huge, frothy, beige head. Malty nose with caramel, dried fruit, raisins, prunes and dark bread. Alcohol well hidden. Malty taste with notes of caramel, chocolate, dark bread, dried fruit, raisins and a spicy, warming finish with bread spices and something earthy/yeasty. Almost full body, fairly sweet, with well balanced hints of alcohol. Lovely beer.

Brown sugar and raisin nose. Cloudy brown, thick yellow head, poor retention. Fig with clover flavor. Fairly good hop presence for a belgian. Sweet and bitter, but disjointed. Alcohol noticeable. Good qualities, but lacks gestalt.

Very dark brown, aroma of syrup, very thick and strong. Taste is the same, too syrupy for me and too sweet. Of course it masks the very high alcohol content but I didnβt taste much balance in this one as I would hope from such a highly rated beer.

Pours very dark copper wtih a lasting creamy head.Nose is complex as expected: raisins, stewed apples, cloves, bready yeast, treacle and cinnamon. Nice!Very sweet rich flavours follow, which I suppose are needed to cover the high alcohol... Lots of candi sugar, dark brown sugar and candied dark fruits. Alcohol is noticeable later on but is in no way overbearing. A little to sweet for me.Carbonation is suitably high. Alcoholic heat is quite noticeable.

At a tasting, thanks Dror, small head with big bubbles, murky brown colour with reddish taints, aroma of brown sugar, dark bread, cinamon and licorice, strong bread and caramel sweetness with some fruit and a touch of hay. Not bad.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks Dror. Dark brown with lots of floaties. Aroma of malt, dark bread, raisins, plum notes, a bit of yeast and a bit of alcohol. Sweet flavor with caramel, molasses, demerara, dark fruits, licorice notes and a bit of alcohol in the dry finish. Full-bodied.
