A rich, dark and intensely flavourful Imperial Stout, packed with burnt coffee and lemon scents, skillfully balanced by sweet sherry and raisin flavours derived from a short period in Lowland malt whisky casks. A smoky, slightly acrid mouthfeel, and a long burnt finish.

Bottle from Aldi Inverurie. It pours darkest brown with a frothy beige head. The aroma is roasted malt, toasty, coffee grounds, vanilla, toffee crisp, softness, sweet whisky fudge, damp wood, rocky road, some fruitiness, touch of smoke and perfume. The taste is dry, some bitterness, toothy, roasted malt, some sweet whisky character, fruitiness, whisky fudge, plum, figgy pudding, date, cola, vanilla, fragrant / perfumed, nip of spice, touch of smoke, coffee grounds and toffee crisp. Medium+ body and moderate carbonation. Pretty decent actually. Reminds me of a whisky and coke but not in a bad way per se.

330ml bottle. Quasi black colour with small, thick, creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, beige to tan head. Chocolately dark malty aroma with Whisky BA support, hints of dark chocolate, couverture, some toffee, slightly penetrative alcoholic Whisky overtones. Taste is roasty and chocolately, dark malty, some Whisky support. Creamy texture, smooth and soft palate, soft to flat carbonation. Rather simple and monotonous for an Impy Stout.

Dark brown coloured body with a light cream head, only a centimetre or so tall. Aroma of whiskey and full alcohol aromas with a lot of pitted fruit, pure caramel, toffee and peated grain. Medium-bodied; Strong whiskey and grain flavour with a dose of roasted and toasted malt, oatmeal, grain, nuts and a little bit of toffee with some fruits and pears. Aftertaste shows a lot of alcohol, but hardly any body or malt complexity with some light caramelised sugars and a touch of bitter malt and earthiness near the end with some alcohol and finishing with the fruit and robust whiskey flavours, but still no depth and body. Overall, a pretty poor beer overall, and especially that of an Imperial Stout, but not worth trying to find or saving by any means, as this one doesn't seem to improve or have any prospect in keeping or gaining body - it's just going to get more thin. I sampled this 33 cL bottle purchased from City'Super! in Times Square, Causeway Bay, Hong Kong, SAR on 03-August-2017 for HK$54,00 sampled at home in Washington on the other side of the pond, a bit shy of a year after purchasing, while England play in the 2018 FIFA World Cup against Tunisia on 18-June-2018. Best By on the Bottle of 02/2019.

330 ml bottle, from the Norwegian importer. ABV is 8%. Black colour, low beige head. Moderate aroma of roast malts, smooth whisky, vanilla, mild coffee and chocolate. The roasty flavour is not too sweet, but has fairly distinct notes of smoke, whisky, vanilla, and coffee. Not bad at all, but my expectations were higher.
