Every year we age a special batch of our much-loved Russian Imperial Stout in Bourbon barrels. The depth, intensity, and complexity of the flavor profile of this special release, like its predecessors, make it a worthy tribute to Old Rasputin. This year, two variants of barrel aged Old Rasputin were produced -- one in rye whiskey barrels, and the other in wheat whiskey barrels. Old Rasputin aged in Wheat Whiskey Barrels. First release XVIII (2015).

Big alcohol aroma. Moderate toast and dry malt, some roast, and more alcohol which is the prominent character of this beer.

Dark brown color. Big oak, wheat whiskey nose, slightly sour with roasted malt notes. Boozy mouth with dark fruit, roasted malt in the mouth. Just too boozy with the wheat wine. The mouth is too carbonated. Not the most balance beer and too boozy but still ok

Rated Jan. 2017. 50cl bottle pours with a dark colored body that supports a dark tan head of foam. The aroma offers up chocolate, tart oak, some sweet malts and then a whiskey booze sensation. The taste delivers a nice hit of chocolate and then caramel heading into marshmallow and whiskey. The body seems to be on the thin side and it takes a few ounces before this starts to work. But it does work pretty well. Nice sipper.

Bottle shared at Vertical tasting from XII. Deep roasted cacao, charred oak, cigars. Super roasty espresso. Boozy charred roast finish. My least favorite of the vertical we did, still a well-made beer though.

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget. Pours oily pitch black with a frothy mocha head that leaves plenty of sticky lacing and trace while dissipating. Smell is malty with roasted malts, caramel, vanilla fudge, charred wood, dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, coconut shells, burnt raisins, moist soil and bourbon alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, malty and nutty. Mouthfeel is soft, round, viscous, astringent, tiny boozy and near full bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and bitter with roasted malts, caramel, vanilla fudge, coffee, chocolate, roasted nuts, soil and bourbon alcohol. Hugely balanced and overall great. Tasty!
