Coffee and raisin nose. Mahogany, medium tan head, abundant glass adherence. Dark chocolate, coffee, raisin. Mild bourbon underneath which becomes more prominent upon warming, but never dominating the flavors of the base beer. Full body, easy carbonation.

Rich deep dark brown coloured body with a very thin light-brown head. Aroma of coffee, rich earthy malt, some light chocolate, vanilla, oak and a bit more coffee - mostly the coffee pulp (like a coffee tea). Medium-bodied; Assertive earthy and bitter flavours at first with a big malt presence, some coffee flavours and a bit of oak in the mix too. Aftertaste is fairly simple with the chocolate sweetness coming out at first, then showing a bit of oak and bourbon elements, all finishing with some big malt bitterness with a lot of earthy flavours. Overall, this isn’t an Imperial Stout at all - it’s just a porter or even an old ale or a brown, but it’s got some decent flavours - nothing great nor worthwhile to sample though! I sampled this sixteen ounce snifter on draught at Whole Foods (happy I didn’t have to get a 65cL bottle!) in Pentagon City (Arlington), Virginia on 30-September-2016 for US$5,00 at the end of my driveway!

Bottle at the August THT, Den Haag. Poured a clear dark brown with a thin broken off white head. The aroma is sweet caramel malt, dry coffee. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter with a dry coffee roasty nutty light alcohol palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, best before 4/22/2017. Pours nearly opaque dark brown/black color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big nutty medium roast coffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, and roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel notes; with great strength. Taste of big nutty medium roast coffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, and roast/toasted earthiness. Light roasted bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of nutty coffee, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, brown bread, and roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel flavors; with a great roasted bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light dryness from roast bitterness and oak spiciness as well. Light-medium carbonation and medium-full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a light warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is a great barrel aged imperial coffee stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, coffee, and bourbon barrel flavors; very smooth and easy to sip on for the big ABV. Nice amounts of barrel presence without being overpowering or boozy. A very enjoyable offering.
