Bottle conditioned.
Caramel and toffee notes abound in this deep copper-colored American Barleywine-style but alongside toasted malt and a hint of ripe dark fruits. Old Numbskull showcases malt sweetness, intense American hops, and an aggressive bitterness. Extremely well-balanced, the full-bodied mouthfeel and assertive hop profile leads into a deceptively smooth finish. Old Numbskull can be enjoyed now or laid down for years to come.

Taster at the brewery. Amber color with fine beige ring. American hops in the aroma, plus caramel and berries. Taste is malty, not too sweet, candied sugar, dried fruit, oranges, tangerines, a bit booze, but stays balanced. Smooth mouthfeel. Not what you?d expect from a Barleywine, Alesmith takes balance to a whole new level. Some ~10 year old bottle. Oxidized, but very good and still balanced.

Bottle at tasting. Copper color, small white head. Aroma of malt and sweet fruit. Taste is very sweet, with toffee, sweet fruit, booze, sticky raisin and again booze. This one is too simple and one dimensional, it’s mostly booze, malt and sweet raisin. Where are the hops?

Smaksprøve fra Rune. Mørk gyldenbrun. Middels høyt skum med litt farge. Aroma av mørke plommer. Myk munnfølelse. Smaken søt frukt. Litt bitterhet setter inn etter hvert. Svakt tørr alkoholisk avslutning.

Draught sample at CBC 2015. Deep copper colour with a thin, off-white head. Rich toffee and caramel malts. Taste is sweet. Full body an oily texture. Finishes slightly dry with rich caramel malts and fruity hints. Lovely BW.

Poured from a big 2013 bottle with a dark blue neck. Deep copper-red body. Stable fawn-coloured head. Toffee, bread and dried fruity aromas. Quite rich taste of apricot, dark fruits, vanilla, almond, bread and caramel. Lingering bittersweet ending supported by a controlled input of alcohol. Full bodied. Decent Saturday night sipper (Tromsø 18.04.2015).
