Cask at St. George’s Tavern, Nicholson’s - London. Pours brown with a creamy, tan head. The aroma holds jammy fruits, berries, grapes, faint cocoa, soft roast. Light-medium sweetflavor with aged fruits, gummy candies, earth, burnt toast. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Bitter earthy finish with further burnt toast, grains, old fruit, berries. Nothing special.

Cask at the Henry Addington. Caramel brown coloured pour with a lasting stodgy light tan head. Aroma is coco powder, wood, earthy berry. Flavour is composed of drying woody, powdered choc, stale dark malts. Palate is thin, lowish cask condition. Little dirty with loads of coco powder.

On cask at the Haymarket. Appearance - close to black but with beautiful red chinks. Nose - dark chocolate and coffee. Maybe some brambles. Taste - dark chocolate again with a burnt coffee edge on the finish. Vanilla if you look hard enough. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a fairly good finish. Overall - not sure the vanilla and bourbon were in huge abundance but it’s quite tasty.

Cask-conditioned at the Portcullis, Bristol 10/12/09. Near black with a slight, tan head. Aroma of dark fruit, roasty malts and a hint of chocolate sweetness. Flavour was dominated by a slightly sour, lactose edge with some charred malts and fruit, leading to a bitter finish. The least of several porters tried the same evening.
