Bacchus Flemish Old Brown surprises with a taste reminiscent of wine and offers a beautiful balance between sweet and sour. This beer impresses through both its sourness and the slight touch of caramel brought by the roasted malt. However, its sourness is less pronounced than the sourness of other Flemish red-brown beers. Therefore, Bacchus Flemish Old Brown is a very refreshing beer with a pleasant aftertaste. A beer full of character and history!

A 375ml. bottle in its charming paper wrapper, purchased online from Beers of Europe while home on holiday, and drunk at my place here in Taipei. Aroma: nice, sourness is discreet. Appearance: opaque cola, 2-3mm. creamy tan head. Palate: light-bodied and a little bit tart, softish carbonation; a not unpleasant yeasty aftertaste edges out any sourness. Taste: lightly sweet with sour notes, very well balanced. Quite sessionable, I could drink this by the pint on a hot summer’s day.

Bottle at home. Pours deep brown with a ruby hue and an off-white head. Nose is cherries, a woody touch, some sweetness. Taste is slighlty sour and tart at first but then immediately followed by an overhwlming, seemingly artificial sweetness that lasts into the finish where it's met again with a slight tartness. Light but full body, average carbonation. Misses the funk, and there's way too much sweetness. Meh.

Pours a reddish brown with a small off-white head. Aroma of wine, sour apple and cherry. Flavour is tart. An enjoyable Sour as it is, but I would have loved more complexity and barnyard/cellar notes.

0.375 l bottle shared with little Dina at Barbeerian, Zagreb. Unclear brown, small off-white head. Aroma is molasses, caramel, spice and some dried fruit. Flavour is sweet caramely, Coca-Cola like, ketchup, soft sour berries or cherry on the palate but no real tartness. Just randomly too sweet and dull. Light body, soft smooth texture, sweet finish. Doesn't resemble a proper Flanders bruin.
