Bacchus Flemish Old Brown surprises with a taste reminiscent of wine and offers a beautiful balance between sweet and sour. This beer impresses through both its sourness and the slight touch of caramel brought by the roasted malt. However, its sourness is less pronounced than the sourness of other Flemish red-brown beers. Therefore, Bacchus Flemish Old Brown is a very refreshing beer with a pleasant aftertaste. A beer full of character and history!

Reddish/brown coloured, almost no head, sour fruity nose. Weak and sour brew. Faint cherry and sugary with mild oak notes, strong acidity and touch of caramel.

Bottle shared with ozujsko at the Hopdevil in Zagreb Poured a darker reddishbrown colour, with a small with nearly no head. The nose was quite vinuous, with hints of malt, yeast and berries and two other things I can’t decipher from my notes... a typical FSA nose. The taste is.. umm.... missing ? Very faint berries and noticable acidity that owns the finish.... if I can use the word finish, because there wasn’t much of a start anyway. F.S.A. Lite. I really want to like van Honsebrouck but I was disappointed so far.

Dirty brown coloured with a thin off white head. Very classy flemish sour aroma, with grounde cherries, sweet candy notes and light acidic points. In mout, however, a pathetic and thin sour, with light cherries and tartess and watery like hell. Bottle at l’Autre Oeil, July 26, 2006.

Bottle: Poured a clear red colored beer with a small head that quickly disappeared. Aroma of oak is clearly present thought not has much as in other example such as Rodenbach. Taste is slightly tart with some nice touch of oak and very subtle cheery. Probably of the best effort from this brewery.

Yellow-brown head, gone very fast; opaque dull red-brown beer. Superb nutty, lactic, woody and fruity nose, multitude of esters and acids and other superb organic compounds that build the greatness of Oud bruin. Flat beginning in the taste, then revived by lactic acid, the suspicion of acetic acid, woody impressions, and again hazelnut notes. A tad portwine or Madeira, but with a more sherry-like dryness. Medium bodied, very dry and dry-out effect, prickly, leaving one wondering where the first flat impression hailed from. "Bacchus" has always been one of my first favourites amongst Oud bruin. I cannot understand why it has become so hard to find, these days.
