A vigorous fermentation is followed by a long maturation – the beer is brewed in February and then released on the unsuspecting public. A densely rich beer with a dark brown head, it has coffee and berry like aromas and a velvet mouth feel. This beer commands respect and deserves to be savoured slowly.

Bottle from Utobeer, London. Pours black with a bubbly tan colour head, soon dissipating. Aroms is a glorious mix of dark fruits, plum, date and chocolate. Light sweetness, medium bitterness, with a light sour undercurrent. Body is full, with a thick texture. Slightly above average carbonation for an imperial stout. Long bitter and slightly sticky finish. A most enjoyable beer, just the sort of beer to savour on a cold and wet winters day and one of the few positives of not living somewhere warmer and drier than the UK!

Bottle. It pours a huge, light tan head over a next to black body. Licorice, roasted malts, dark chocolate, cellar hints and some herbal hints in the aroma. Lots of licorice in the flavor, with alcohol, almond essence, roasted malts, herbal hints and dark chocolate. Full body, quite a lot of carbonation. Lasting finish with herbs, dark chocolate, bitterness and alcohol. Some solvent going on too, all the way. A bit unclean this one, but with some qualities. 140816
