Fruit beers are sweet aren’t they? Not this one. Refermented with the wild flora from the raw damsons, left to sit for months, this is noticeably sharp and dry. Sold out for this year, but another (small) batch is in the works.

Bottle from Tebay Services, M6 Motorway, Cumbria. Dark clear amber-brown with next to no head. Has a mid sourness at best, with a dryness to this, it’s fruit is light too, but develops in its lingering aftertaste. Its strength is most evident in its aroma.

330ml bottle shared with Ashton McCobb. Pours opaque brown with a thin off-white head. Aromas of tart fruit, plum skin. Stones too. Strong damson taste. Lightly funky. Dry. Light yeast spice esters. Like a dry red wine. Grew on me.

Bottle from Rheged. Appearance - opaque black with an olive sheen. Nice off white lacy head. Nose - totally reminds me of a Flemish Red, straight up. Sour and tangy, lightly musty and woody. Prunes and blackberry jam. Something savoury/preserved too. Taste - dark fruits at the front, probably plum and blackcurrant, black olive, finish. Interesting! Palate - medium bodied with a long lean middle section which is dry and tangy. The finish is a continuation of that long dry tangy note. Overall - I really like this a lot.

Bottle from Tebay Services [260113]
Very dark ruby, bubbly off white head that dissipates
Aroma - Slight sour dark fruits, slight smoke note, odd aroma, hint of plastic
Taste - Bland dark fruits, little flavour, very boring, soft sour fruitiness
Palate - Soft carb, light soft quite sweet dull fruit palate. Finish is very dry and rapid.
Overall - Very disappointing. Was just so dull

Bottle shared at CPK, London - just something random I had kicking about. Pours clearish brown with a light, tan cream head. Appley notes in the aroma. Light sweet flavor with dry wood and some leathery fruits. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Moderately dry finish with light tang, dirt, further leather. Interesting in a kind of academic sort of way, but the beer is impressively devoid of much character. Fairly mediocre.
