Balancing the rich opulence of a dark ale with Sharp’s trademark finesse for a blend of imperial stout and Belgian Dubbel. British malts and American hops are combined with Belgian yeast for a rich, roasted, fruity stout, enriched during the long maturation with coffee beans.

Appearance is black, a fizzy head which instantly disappears. Looks like coke. Aroma is coffee, lots of liquorice, blackcurrant. Vanilla undertones. Taste- dark chocolate, coffee bitterness, a bit fudgy, liquorice hints, dark fruits, toffee sauce, hint of sticky toffee pudding. Plenty of carbonation, medium mouthfeel. Nice, doesn’t quite come together though.

Bottle. Hop Hideout, Sheffield. Clear, reddy brown. No head. Dried vine fruit. Cola cubes. Taste is grassy dry. Coffee bitter. Overly carbonated, yet thin palate. Finishes cola sweet. Pretty grim.

Pours dark brown, almost black with a smooth head. Aroma of roasty malts, coffee, yeast and earthy notes. Taste is malty, roasty and heavy with coffee notes. Finish is roasty and sweetish with hints of yeast and coffee. Quite interesting.

Bottle at Craig’s. Pours very dark brown with a thin beige head. Aromas of plums and dark sugar, Belgian yeastiness, touch of cola. Taste is more of the same, not getting a right lot of coffee from this. Light body and a little thin. OK.

Bottle at home, from Utobeer, 08/05/14. Light black vergeing on cola brown with a big old tan head that soon dissipates to a swirl avec edgework and eventually Nyadda. Nose is roast malt, strangely cheesey but not OTT in this respect, cocoa powder, coffee beans, vanilla cheesecake, toffee fudge. Taste comprises bitter roast, coffee is well evident, brown sugars, cocoa powder, tar. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, drying close with coffee grinds still evident. Doesn’t come together too well, lacks balance, the coffee comes through but a bit messy, that said still drinkable as a 12oz, finished it!

Clear deep amber beer with a good size tan head, short lived. Palate is fairly light and crisp. Mellow tangy coffee, hardly there. Nice dark fruits. Trace of coca cola. Finishes neutral. Interesting beer, unusual flavour profile but tasty and drinkable.

Bottle from Darts Farm, Vintage 2012. Deep brown, tiny beige head. Malty with some shy coffee and a plant like "green" flavour. Weird but not uninteresting.
