Bear loves hops. Fact. When Bear Beer Reviews was let loose on a brewery he demanded one thing: a hugely hoppy DIPA. Brass Castle and Bad Seed joined forces to forge a lupulin laced demon that would wake a hibernating grizzly.

Hazy deep amber beer, good pale cream colour head. Light palate. Unsweet caramel malt, slightly tangy. Light skunky hop, mild marmalade. Some saltiness, in fact this is wandering in to barleywine territory. It’s a bit salty and caramel to be much of an IPA.

Bottle from Mr. Pickles (no, really), Abbeydale Road, Sheffield. Hazy, amber colour. Thin, white, sticky, lasting head. Barley sugar sweets. Pineapple. Toffee. Grapefruit. Light medicinal thing going on. Full bag of mashings, really. Really enticing. Taste is strawberry jam sweet. Then lots of pithy, pink grapefruit bitterness. Palate is suitably robust. Some alcohol warmth. Finish is long, chewy bitterness. Very good.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Murky amber body with an off-white head. Light lacing. Aroma of caramel, wood and fizzy watermelon sweets. Flavour of honey and lemon flavoured Strepsils, caramel and grapefruit. The alcohol is well hidden. Medium body with an oily texture. Faint carbonation. There’s a distinct west coast US feel to this beer - almost sickly sweet malt with a huge hop hit. I prefer my IPAs/DIPAs to be less sweet, but this is pretty good.
