Pours a dark amber color with a thin off-white head that diminishes quickly to a wispy film. Short strings of lace. Aroma of caramel, oak and wine. Medium to full body with flavors of caramel malt, vinous oak, figs and vanilla. The finish is oaky with a charred malt and fruit aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bottle thanks to Shawn! Pours a hazy deep copper amber with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grain and caramel with notes of whiskey and a bit of a chardonnay bite underlying. Flavor is a bit more boozy but has a good amount of sweet grains, caramel and a chardonnay bite in the finish.

2014 bottle from La Bodega in Anchorage. Pours very dark copper with a slight beige head. Brown sugar aroma. Med body. Flavor is oaky, followed by brown sugar. Not too sweet, suggesting a dry sherry, and just a little bitter. Thereโ€™s a whiskey aspect, but Iโ€™m not sure itโ€™s bourbon; probably is tho. Itโ€™s sippin pretty nicely.

11.2oz 2014 vintage bottle, courtesy of SHIG (thanks Shawn!!), pours with a murky amber body that has thin gold hued edges and supports a short lived tan head. The aroma offers up inviting dark fruity esters like plums, figs and a bit of dates as well as a sherry sensation that leads to some booziness at the end of the draw. The taste delivers initially smooth sweet prunes, figs and brown sugar dusted raisins to start. Toward midway the mild booziness surfaces and takes this to the finish with thin ribbons of molasses like residual sugars, a slight sweetened woody note and fading sweet dark fruity esters. Pretty solid English barleywine but it doesnโ€™t reach the richness and depth that are the hallmark of the top tier of the style.

Thanks Sean Cavanagh for sending.
This was poured into a chalice.
The appearance was a hazy ruddy burnt brown color with no head nor lacing.
The smell had a wonderful combination of dried fig, vanilla, tobacco, light and dark fruits, slight woodiness all combine to develop and meld together.
The taste was sweet and woody with a dry fruity to vanilla aftertaste leading to a dry sweet caramel finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a medium on the body with a nice sticky sipping quality about it. Dry sweet caramel slightly sticks to my tongue.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good English styled barleywine that I would have again.
