Cask at Aldenham Toby Carvery, Watford. Bit of a surprise this one- not just a cask ale in decent condition at a Toby Carvery, but also a Christmas beer by one of the big regionals that’s actually not completely gopping. It poured a reddish-amber with a thick cream head. It starts out with a rich fruitiness- orange and blackberry perhaps- with caramel behind and a touch of spice. A light but well-balanced earthy bitterness follows. Its not earth-shattering but ad UK Christmas ales go this is really quite pleasant.

Cask @ Picture House, Leeds. A deeper golden coloured ale with a small creamy head and a fruity aroma. Has a mild fruity bitterness for its taste and a little thin in texture.
